If you have dermshield, saniderm, or any other second skin product on your tattoo, here is a guide on aftercare.

The first 24 hours

Keep an eye out for any allergic reactions. this could look like redness around the perimeter of the wrap or severe burning and redness on the entire covered area. some people also form blisters on the edge of the wrap. While it is not a common assurance, it can happen. If you are unsure if you are having a reaction, reach out to your artist as soon as you notice signs.

How long do I leave it on?

Assuming you are not having a reaction, it is ideal to leave the wrap one for 5 days. NO LONGER THAN 5.

Removal of wrap

After 3-5 days, gently remove the wrap and wash your tattoo with non-scented antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean towel and allow to air dry for a couple of hours before applying ointment.

Do’s and Don’ts

DO be gentle when showering, while water running over the wrap is okay, you don’t want to scrub the wrap to the point where it rolls back and exposes the tattoo.

DONT submerge your tattoo in any way until 3-4 weeks into healing (at least)

DO leave the tattoo alone until it’s time to remove the wrap and inform your artist of any questions you have during healing.

DONT over moisturize your tattoo. after wrap removal, only a very small amount of ointment is needed about 2 times a day.

DO keep your tattoo dry to the touch after the removal of wrap or padding. If your tattoo is moist with ointment, you are using too much.

DONT use alcohol, peroxide, scented lotions, or anything other than the aftercare you received from your artist or whatever tattoo specific ointment you have purchased.

Aftercare with

If your artist used tattoo armor padding, here is a guide on aftercare.

The first 24 hours

leave the padding on your tattoo overnight. NO SHOWERING!! you cannot get this padding wet.

the next morning you will remove the padding and wash your tattoo with a non-scented antibacterial soap, then pat dry with a clean towel. Wait at least an hour to apply ointment.

APPLY ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF OINTMENT

we must emphasize that a very small amount of ointment is needed. Too much ointment can result in keeping the tattoo wet and open, therefore leaving it susceptible to infection, not to mention bad scabbing. A dry and clean tattoo is best.

Remember, your tattoo is an open wound so keep it very clean and away from direct sunlight and any activities that would get it dirty. no excessive touching, no tight clothing on the tattooed area.

if your artist provided an extra pad, wash your tattoo before bed and apply the second pad before you go to sleep the second night. Repeat the same steps as the first night.

your tattoo should start to peel around day 3 and will peel for around 2 weeks.
